“I believe in solitude broken like bread by poetry.” — Anne Hébert

My work as a facilitator and editor has grown out of a similar belief: that the craft of writing thrives on community.

WORKSHOPS

My teaching departs from the premise that your own experience—whether you’ve been writing for decades or are coming to the page for the first time—is a legitimate, worthwhile place to begin.

Past workshop topics include the relationship between writing and rivers, the creative power of interruption, and the role of silence.

I have led workshops in classrooms, galleries, bookstores, and public libraries, and can facilitate in both English and French.

EDITING & MENTORSHIP

I have had the pleasure of working with writers at all stages of their process—from those beginning to draft their first poems to those completing full-length manuscripts. I am especially interested in working with emerging poets and literary translators.

I offer editorial support with individual pieces of writing and longer writing projects, as well as mentorships with writers looking to deepen or revitalize their relationship to the page.

My services can be tailored to your individual needs; to inquire about your particular project or area of interest, please get in touch.

“Lauren welcomed everyone however we showed up – whether we were excited to write or filled with doubt.” — Workshop participant

Trusting Lauren with my words was the best decision I made for my manuscript. I felt more confident and proud of my writing after our time together. Her feedback pushed me to ask deeper questions of my own work. She is generous, honest, and committed to bringing out the best in a poet. She made the editorial process feel like a collaboration rather than a critique. Any poet would be lucky to have Lauren in their corner.” Lindi Nolte, poet and editing client

“Working with Lauren brought my manuscript to the next level. Thanks to her exceptional skills as an editor, poet, and educator, she was able to offer brilliant structural and line edits that aligned perfectly with my vision. I was actually amazed by how Lauren was able to capture the essence of my work. I ended up accepting virtually all of her editorial suggestions, which is extremely rare. Lauren took her time with areas that needed more attention, making for an enjoyable and creatively stimulating process. I couldn’t recommend a better editor to work with!” — Mezi, poet
